I was at the grocery store this afternoon, taking advantage of the break in the searing heat to pick up some necessities. As I was moseying down the frozen food aisle in search of green beans, what to my wandering eyes should appear? An eight pound bag of Tater Tots, or some variation on that brand name.
Eight pounds.
Eight!
Who in their right mind would ever need to purchase eight pounds of tater tots? Let me be clear here. I was not at the wholesaler, not at Costco, I was simply at the regular grocery store. I think what made it worse, made it somehow more unsettling, was the fact that the pile of eight pound bags was depleted. This means people actually purchased these eight pound bags.
My first instinct was to get my camera out and take a picture, for I could not actually believe what I was seeing. Sadly, my camera is sitting here on my desk. My second impulse was to wait until someone - ANYone - came by and snagged a bag, just to ensure humans buy potato remnants - smushed up and fried - in this quantity.
I am still in shock ... and a wee bit queasy.
