I read online recently that the only way to determine if a toy is exclusively for girls is if it can only be operated by a vagina, and if a toy is only for boys, it can only be operated with a penis. I think I agree with that. Sadly, it is not just toys that people want to separate by sex. Colours, clothes, toys, shoes, and even hair are all seemingly segregated between female appropriate and male appropriate.
A colleague cut her hair short last weekend. This is a professional educator with about a decade of teaching experience. To say she rocks the short-haired look is an understatement. Unlike me, she makes short hair look amazing. When she went to work on Monday, some of her students - all under the age of eight I believe - commented on how she now had boy hair.
Boy hair.
I kid you not. And one of her little girls said she would never cut her hair short so she would not be called a boy.
I am so sick and tired of this. I am going to set up a test for my students to see how well they differentiate between boy stuff and girl stuff.
Now to go make up a list of stuff that people still seem to think is segregated by sex.
*sigh*

real men wear pink and some even have 'man buns'... as ugly as they might be, they do not make a man less manly.
