Minor Epiphany

I really should not call this an epiphany. It was more of a realization, one of those moments that makes you smile suddenly.

I was driving down the street, headed to the bookstore, Howie Day singing to me from the backseat, when all of a sudden, I had a thought. It is not the teacher I am that makes me the person I am. It is the person I am that makes me the teacher I am. Perhaps that sounds silly, but it matters to me. In recent years, I had chalked up the changes in me in no small part to the work I do. Today I realized that I have become a better teacher because of the person I am. I am responsible for the changes in me, and that has improved my life all around, including my professional life.

That rocks! Heh
