Where Are We Going, And Why Are We In This Handbasket?

I have a pretty good idea where we are going as a species, and it scares me silly. I have worked with teenagers for almost twenty years, and in that time I have watched a steady decline within our species in regards to their survival skills. It is not just the teens, it is their families as well.

In a nutshell, people are idiots. Young and old alike, we have somehow lost the ability to thin out the herd. Now, the world is rife with people too stupid to live who are somehow kept alive by well-meaning yet desperately misguided helpers. These helpers have just enough intelligence to realize that without the stupid people they are the lame gazelles, so keeping the idiots around ensures their own survival.

Here is the sad part : they outnumber us. The idiots and their helpers are now the majority. So natural selection is screwed, and the weak shall inherit the earth. And I guess that is why we are headed to hell in a handbasket. But hey, check out all the pithy bumperstickers we have on the side.
