I was standing in the stairwell, watching the students come in : the serene, the surreal, the sublime; all the freaks, geeks, dorks, jocks, and losers, and I could not help but wonder ....
When my children attended this school, how did they walk up the stairs to class? Which category did they fall into? Were they the spastic student, unable to control themselves as they walked up the stairs? Big and loud? Smiling at everyone? Head up, or head down? Then, even worse, the thought came, unbidden .... What messages did I give off in the schools I attended? I was shy, very quiet, but a fairly happy kid. I tended to wander around with my head down so as not to make eye contact. Eye contact led to talking, and I was too shy to enjoy that.
It did get me wondering, though.
