but it bears repeating.
"In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."
~Martin Luther King, Jr.
I watched a documentary that showed the weeks and days leading up to the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. and was moved yet again by that statement. I can only imagine how lonely it must have been to be involved in the civil rights movement in the sixties. Each person, although united with many in a just cause, still an individual, on their own.
In moments like that, we turn to those we think of as friends to bolster us, to help us through. Stand by me, we ask silently, an unspoken plea for those who call us friend to match their actions to their words. I don't know how he did it, with all of his silent friends.
Sleep, sleep tonight
And may your dreams be realised.
If the thunder cloud passes rain
So let it rain, rain down on him.
So let it be.
So let it be.
Sleep, sleep tonight
And may your dreams be realised.
If the thunder cloud passes rain
So let it rain, let it rain
Rain down on him.
