Eros & Psyche Part One

Eros was the god of love in Greek mythology. He was the son of Aphrodite, who was the goddess of love. Aphrodite, as I understand it, was vain at times about her beauty. When it came to her attention that there was this mortal girl, Psyche, who people found more beautiful, Aphrodite sent her son to shoot the girl with an arrow while she slept, so that when she awoke she would fall in love with the first male she saw. Aphrodite was thinking she would send a donkey, an old man, or some sort of wretched specimen for Psyche to fall in love with.

Sadly, the best laid plans ....

When Eros found the sleeping Psyche, he was taken with her beauty. As he scratched her gently with his love-tipped arrow, he woke her, and as she gazed at him, he was so entranced by her that he accidentally scratched himself, too. Eros had shot many people with his arrows but he himself had never been shot, he had never known the power and the poison of love.

As he looked down at Psyche, Eros knew he loved her, and he would never let harm come to her is he could prevent it.

Eros made arrangements for Psyche to be brought to a kingdom far from his Mother's vengeful sight. Psyche was told she had been kidnapped and that she was never to see her husband, that he would only come to her under cover of darkness. Despite her worries, Psyche's new robber-bridegroom was good to her, and she never wanted for anything.
