Peanut Propers ....

Okay, I have an issue here .....
Why does Peanut's paternal family insist on dressing her like a goober? Seriously, are they all that incompetent? Or is it just how they dress her to come out with us? This summer, we always made sure we had a complete outfit for her, including shoes, so we could be assured she did not look impoverished.
On Thursday, I made arrangements with her father to take her to my Christmas concert. I specifically told him it was my school's concert. When I arrived to pick her up, what was she wearing? Purple boots, red pants, a yellow Tshirt, green socks, and a pink coat. Her mittens and scarf did not match, and her hat was out there, too, although it was terribly cute. Everything clashed. Today, when her paternal grandparents dropped her off, what was she wearing? Purple boots, baggy red pants, and a burgundy and grey sweatshirt, with yellow socks. Everything clashed. Again.
I do not think this is a coincidence. Bug says they get her clothes from the Salvation Army, or a Goodwill type of organization. Her father works as a cook in a decent hotel, full time, and his parents both work, him for the telephone company (big bucks), her for a daycare. Bug lives on a student loan, yet we manage to buy her reasonably priced clothes that actually match!!!!
These people appear to delight in dressing her like a ruffian. As if being Aboriginal in this racist city is not enough of a hurdle for her to deal with, they seem to go out of their way to make her look like a Welfare child. It infuriates me, and I am uncertain how much longer I am willing to keep quiet just to keep the peace.
For those of you who have not seen her, Peanut is a cute kid. She is smart and funny, and terribly endearing much of the time (when she is not being bossy). She is developing some idiosyncrasies that alarm me, however. No singing, no dancing, laying in the bed very still after nap time until someone opens the damn door ..... these things alarm me.
I tell myself over and over again that it is not my issue, there is nothing I can do, but these people are either malicious or clueless. Either way, I am almost at the end of my patience. Soon, someone is going to get a boot up their ass. If needs be, I will buy new Nike hikers and shove them up their collective asses.
